On Saturday, August 29, 2026, visual artist Liesje van den Berk organize a drawing walk in Amsterdam North. This time, the focus is on the ground beneath our feet: what does the soil tell us about the past and present of this area?
Discover, Experience, and Draw
During this walk, you will set out with a graphite pencil: you will look, feel, listen, and smell, and capture your observations on paper. We begin with our hands in the soil and our noses in the earth. We will translate these experiences into drawings. Was this area once a peat bog? What are the effects of the drought of the past few months?
In 2026, visual artist Liesje van den Berk is once again organizing monthly drawing walks through Amsterdam North. She does this in collaboration with Boekhandel van Noord and the Boven ’t Y Shopping Centre. Drawing walks and walks with writers alternate. This year, some drawing walks are even combined with a writer or storyteller.
During the walk, you set out with a pencil or let yourself be inspired by stories. You look, listen, feel, and capture everything on paper. The walks are for everyone; no experience is necessary. Let yourself be surprised!
Visual artist and teacher Liesje van den Berk will guide you with short drawing assignments and practical tips. Whether you are experienced or drawing for the first time: this is an inspiring day to experience Amsterdam North in a new way.
