Hold Back the Dawn

In the heat and chaos of 1930s Tijuana, cynical Georges Iscovescu charms his way into the affections of an angelic schoolteacher. Drawn from Wilder’s own immigration experience of Mexico’s refugee-packed hotels, Georges’ scheme to evade border control hits a snag when cupid calls. This gloriously romantic tale of redemptive love marries Leisen’s stylistic flair with Wilder’s razor-sharp writing, alongside an undercurrent of political discontent. Screen: NFT2.
