I Scream Social: Irene Han, Liliana Valenzuela & more

I Scream Social is thrilled to welcome an inspiring line-up of writers and translators this September, featuring Irene Han, Jessica Danger, Liliana Valenzuela, and Susana Plotts-Pineda! With September ushering in the fall, bring your hopes, dreams, and a fresh poem for the open mic! Presented by Host Publications, I Scream Social is a monthly feminist reading series and ice cream party that takes place at Alienated Majesty Books. We aim to celebrate and empower historically marginalized writers and share incredible literature and diverse perspectives to an Austin-area audience. Hosted this month by poets Claire Bowman & Annar Veröld! Free & open to all! Reader Bios: Irene Han is a writer from the Bay Area. She is currently a poetry fellow at the Michener Center for Writers. Liliana Valenzuela is an award-winning poet and acclaimed Spanish translator of works by authors such as Sandra Cisneros, Julia Alvarez, Denise Chavez, and many other writers. She is the author of Codex of Love: Bendita Ternura (FlowerSong Books, 2020) and Codex of Journeys: Bendito Camino (Mouthfeel Press, 2013). In 2026, she was inducted into the Texas Institute of Letters. A native of Mexico City, Liliana is a long-time Austin resident and UT alumna. Born and raised in Southern California, Jessica Danger holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Bennington Writing Seminars, where she returned as the Creative Nonfiction Fellow in 2025. Her work has been published in places like The Sun, Oh, Reader, and Issued and her memoir, NO HEROIC MEASURES, is out now. Susana Plotts-Pineda is the author of In Order to Extract the Memory it is Of Course Necessary to Build the Room which came out with Futurepoem this year. She was a recipient of a Fulbright Award in Mexico City from 2025-2026. Open Mic: Sign ups for the open mic begin at 6:45pm. The open mic is reserved for writers from historically marginalized communities. Because slots are limited and we want to make room for everyone, we ask that you wait until 7:10 to sign up if you joined us for the open mic the previous month.
