Romeo and Katrina 2026 Live Script Reading

Color Arc Productions returns to the AARC on Saturday, September 26 with a full script reading of Romeo and Katrina, a musical set four years after Hurricane Katrina devastated the city of New Orleans. This musical crosses the Mississippi River to bridge two lovers from Westbank and Eastbank New Orleans: Romeo Tran and Katrina "Trina" Batiste. Romeo and Trina's relationship grows amidst the backdrop of New Orleans’ post-Katrina recovery and the Saints’ storied ascent to Superbowl glory. Written and developed by local Austin playwright, Christine Hoang, Romeo andKatrina was first shared as a live-music concert in 2022 at the AARC. This year a new, full script of the musical will be presented, followed by a talkback with the cast and crew, moderated by director Mikala Gibson. A new finale song will be performed by the cast and led by musical’s composer, Tyler Mabry. Romeo and Katrina is an uplifting exploration of community, life, and finding light in dark places. It is inspired by Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet. Content Warning: To tell this story authentically, it addresses central themes of suicide and grief.
