Klein’s film is a kaleidoscopic document of the 12-day event that took place in Algiers as part of a celebration of African identity and culture. Klein’s team on the project included Sarah Maldoror, as well as French cinematographer and filmmaker Pierre Lhomme, and Algerian directors Mohamed Slimane Riad and Ahmed Lallem, among others. It combined music by the likes of Miriam Makeba, Nina Simone and Archie Shepp, alongside Maya Angelou, Stokely Carmichael and key leader of Africa’s post-colonial governments. Screen: NFT3.
