Les Arcs Ensemble performs two works for string quintet during the Grachtenfestival at the Dominicus Church in Amsterdam. You will hear Molina's rhythmic 'Rito' and 'Díptico', and Dvořák's String Quintet in E-flat — performed with double bass instead of cello. String quintet with an unusual instrumentation Les Arcs Ensemble presents a program featuring two works for string quintet. The role of the double bass is noteworthy: in Dvořák's String Quintet in E-flat, it takes the place of the usual second cello. This gives the work a darker, fuller sound character than you might be accustomed to. Molina and Dvořák in one program The program opens with two works by the Spanish-American composer Jorge Amado Molina: Rito and Díptico . Rhythm and layered structures take center stage. This is followed by Dvořák's broadly spun quintet, with melodic lines and an extensive musical build-up. Due to the double bass as a fifth voice, it sounds different from the original version.
