On Halloween night, 1963, in the small Illinois town of Haddonfield, 6-year-old Michael Myers commits a horribly violent act against his older sister. Fifteen years later, he escapes from a mental institution, returns to Haddonfield on Halloween, and stalks teenage babysitter Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis, in her feature film debut) while psychiatrist Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) tries to find him. Released in 1978, Halloween is a pioneering slasher film that established Curtis as a scream queen. Driven by John Carpenter’s sharp direction and staging, coupled with the use of POV shots and his now-iconic, eerie piano score, Halloween went on to become one of the most profitable independent films of all time, leading to numerous sequels, reboots, remakes and many other adaptations.
