Musique des Amants
About the event
Duo Blaeu in Splendor: Musique des Amants. What does love do to sound? In 'Musique des Amants', it sounds not only warm and tender, but also sultry, capricious, obsessive, and elusive. Duo Blaeu takes you on a journey through four French works in which desire constantly transforms. Four works, four ways to desire
The music of French composers such as Franck, Debussy, Ravel, and Messiaen breathes the spirit of an era full of dreams, subtlety, and unprecedented beauty: the time of the 20th century, when Paris buzzes with art and innovation. Composers, poets, and painters meet in salons and studios.
Franck's Violin Sonata in A major unfolds as a passionate declaration of love. Ravel seduces with the sultry rhythms of his Pièce en forme de Habanera. In Messiaen's Thème et variations, a simple theme becomes a kaleidoscope of color, movement, and stillness. Debussy's Violin Sonata in G minor, his last completed composition, concludes the program with an idiosyncratic, intimate look at love and farewell.
Four works, four ways of longing – from romantic glow to musical abstraction. Duo Blaeu consists of violinist Feyona van Iersel and pianist Martijn Smits. They have been playing together for years in various chamber music ensembles and are known for their personal and engaging performances.
