The Coletivo Kizomba Pra Preto show will have only 4 performances after moving audiences in its June season. Following a successful June run with moving performances and strong audience approval, “A Ópera do Carnaval – A História do Samba Contada por Nós” returns to the stage of Teatro Itália for a new set of shows on August 07, 14, 21, and 28, always at 8:30 PM. The production, written and directed by carnival designer Fabio Gouveia, reaffirms its goal of telling the history of samba from the perspective of Black Brazilian culture, guiding audiences through a journey that spans the African diaspora and reaches the consolidation of samba as a symbol of identity, resistance, and celebration. Beyond storytelling, the piece reclaims narratives and revisits the struggles, resilience, and achievements of Black men and women who turned pain into culture, highlighting Black leadership in shaping Brazil's cultural identity. On stage, samba takes on the role of narrator, revealing stories and key figures in the formation of national culture, many of whom have been erased over time. The staging uses a contemporary language with strong visual impact, live music, and choreography that brings historical themes closer to the audience through emotion and identification. The success of the first season underscored the work's importance in São Paulo's cultural scene and prompted the show's return to Teatro Itália, offering a new opportunity both for those who haven't seen it and for those who want to relive the experience.
