Vertical Blue - Body of Art | Annemijn Rijk
About the event
Body of Art / Annemijn Rijk presents Vertical Blue, an immersive performance at Frascati Theater Amsterdam. Dancers, light, and music take you on a freedive in a slowly changing environment. Let yourself be swept away by the undercurrent and dive deep into the ocean. Explore the depths of surrender
In a world where the human urge to control creates the illusion of control, life can sometimes overwhelm you. Think of grief, happiness, heartbreak, missed opportunities, or the birth of a child. The tendency to shut yourself off from overwhelming feelings makes you hard and stubborn. Vertical Blue offers a different approach.
Let yourself be carried away with Vertical Blue
Vertical Blue turns the tide; you are overwhelmed and carried away by the undercurrent. Dive deep into the ocean, hold your breath, but let your body be soft. Sounds vibrate perceptibly, performers descend into the depths, and the surroundings transform into an elusive perspective. The world speaks and your senses listen attentively.
A radical surrender in times of crisis
If what previously held you back no longer serves you, but actually harms you, Vertical Blue makes a radical proposal. What if your response to crisis is not fighting, but listening, surrendering, creating reciprocity, and realigning? This performance invites you to surrender and let go deeply. Not out of indifference, but to open your hands, eyes, and mind to what cannot be held onto or controlled. You are heading towards a hard reset, an 'act of surrender'.
