A Saturday morning across a Brussels most people never connect: out of the metro at Schuman, through Square Ambiorix and up to Parc Josaphat, into the Terdelt garden city, then down to the canal and along the docks and the Bassin Vergote all the way to Place Sainte-Catherine. We finish at the cafe terraces around 14:00 and sit down together for a coffee or a lunch, whoever wants to stay.
🥾 About 16 km, roughly 3 and a half hours of walking plus stops. Genuinely flat, and mostly downhill in the second half: gentler per kilometre than the distance sounds.
🗺️ I walked this route myself first to check the ground and the timings, so the numbers above are measured rather than guessed. The route (+ pictures): https://www.wikiloc.com/hiking-trails/schuman-to-sainte-catherine-16-km-of-parks-garden-cities-and-the-canal-282231520
⏱ We keep a conversational pace and we sit down properly about every 45 minutes. A real stop with everyone off their feet, not thirty seconds of standing around waiting for the stragglers. The metro and trams shadow the whole route: skipping a stretch or peeling off early is not a failure.
🍽 The finish is Place Sainte-Catherine and its terraces, in the old harbour heart of the city. The table is as much the point as the walk, whoever wants to stay. Everyone pays their own, and a coffee is participation enough.
📅 Second of three Saturdays, each a different Brussels and each a bit longer than the last. You do not need to have done the first one: every walk is booked separately and it is not the same ten people each time. The third one is the big finish.
💬 The group runs in English. Bring water, wear shoes you have already walked in, and check the weather the night before.
