Is this your event?About the event
This session provides introductory practical skills for making moving image work, with attention to framing (science) fictional worlds within a single frame or setting. Exploring techniques like the long take and the loop, and aspects of the visual structure of film, you’ll be given an introduction with reference to artist filmmakers like Steve McQueen and Stuart Croft.
Experiment with peers and share ideas; working together, you’ll create a scene and film short video portraits.
The workshop takes its name from a line in Octavia E Butler’s ‘Dawn’, part one of the trilogy ‘Xenogenesis’. In ‘Dawn’, Lilith Iyapo awakens into an unexplained captivity; Butler describes these many awakenings in silo and the repetition in a single setting of encountering that, alas, you are, ‘Alive! Still alive. Alive…again.’
No prior experience needed, just bring yourself! Spaces are limited in this workshop, arrive early to sign-up for a slot in the workshop. Workshop sign-ups will take place at the door to the workshop space (G16)
