Know the Score: A Novel Approach for a Touring Pianist
About the event
Know the Score is a series of musical lectures and conversations presented in collaboration with the Vancouver Recital Society. These events bring together musicians, critics, and presenters to discuss the past, present and future of Western Classical Music through both musical performances and dialogue. For the first event, we will be hosting world-renowned pianist Filippo Gorini. Classical music may seem static and locked in its golden traditions. But with his project Sonata for 7 Cities, Italian pianist Filippo Gorini embarked beyond the concert hall on a worldwide journey, performing Beethoven and Schubert for the disadvantaged side of the community. Join this lecture to learn about his fascinating encounters and the repertoire he chose to play. This lecture is designed to deepen the listening experience for both existing classical music fans and the classical-curious, no prior experience needed! - Filippo Gorini is widely recognized as one of the world's leading young pianists. His musicianship has drawn acclaim in recitals in the major venues in Europe and abroad. Critics praise his serious and soulful approach to composers like Bach, Beethoven and Schubert, as well as his daring programmes involving music from by composers such as Stockhausen and Kurtág, and commissioning new works. Gorini has received the “Premio Abbiati”, the most prestigious musical recognition in Italy, in 2022, as well as the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award 2020. Additionally, his three albums have all garnered critical acclaim. - Presented in partnership with Vancouver Recital Society. -- Accessibility: VPL is committed to making our programs accessible for all.
