The Female Body in Art: with Amy Dempsey
About the event
Join art historian and best-selling author Amy Dempsey for an illustrated talk exploring how representations of the female body have evolved over time through the history of art. Featuring artists from the Gallery's collection, Amy will examine how women have been portrayed in art from the Renaissance to the present day, considering how artists have depicted the female body across centuries of artistic and cultural change. The talk will feature artworks from a range of cultures and traditions to show the different ways the female form has been portrayed and to consider how these representations of women both reflected and influenced the cultural and social values of their time. Join us in the Pigott Theatre and discover what these images reveal and what they conceal about the cultures that shaped them.
