Nuit Blanche Night Waves: CityPlace & Fort York
About the event
Presented by Drom Artist Collective in collaboration with Rudy Ray & Co.
As late summer gives way to fall—and thousands of people arrive in Toronto to study, work and make the city home—Night Waves transforms Canoe Landing Park into an evening of sound, movement and collective exploration.
Curated by Drom Artist Collective in collaboration with Rudy Ray & Co., the activation animates Bobber Plaza through live music, dance and participatory performance, celebrating Toronto’s cultural diversity while creating an accessible platform for local artists. Night Waves takes inspiration from Night Ride and Night Walk, Toronto’s iconic 1980s late-night television programs built around music, movement and wandering through the city. The title also speaks to sound waves, water, migration and the Canoe itself—connecting the experience to place, movement and Toronto after dark.
The evening unfolds as a journey: beginning with live performance, expanding into collective dance, and culminating in a multi-channel Silent Disco beneath the downtown skyline.
Program Overview
• Flamenco Performance: An hour-long Flamenco performance opens the evening with rhythm, movement and improvisation, inviting audiences into the space and establishing dance as a shared language.
• Afro-Cuban Live Band + Salsa: Two 40-minute sets from a full Afro-Cuban ensemble bring the plaza to life, paired with an interactive salsa lesson that shifts audiences from spectators to participants.
• Night Waves Silent Disco: The evening culminates in an immersive Silent Disco featuring four Toronto-based DJs representing the breadth of the city’s dance music cultures. Guests choose their own sonic journey, moving together beneath the skyline while experiencing the same place through different sounds.
