Forbidden Drive Frolic
About the event
Gravel or hybrid bicycling out and back on a wide carriage road for a total of 11.3 miles. Location is intersection of Northwestern and Forbidden Drive Lafayette Hill, PA. The easiest way to find it is to put in Bruno”s Restaurant or 9800 Germantown Pike, Lafayette Hill, PA 19444. Note that there are several parking lots and entrances to the trail but we are meeting at the start near Bruno’s. Portapotty at start. Flush toilet (but rough) 2.5 miles in. Route is beautiful, running out and back along the river. It would be an easy ride ( at about 8-9 mph )except the surface is varied with some real gravel and large stones as well as packed dirt. There is elevation change of about 300 ft but nothing Mt Everest-like! There can be quite a bit of pedestrian traffic to navigate but no vehicles. Two road crossings at crosswalks but we will cross as a group because the crossing comes up quickly/unexpectedly for autos. Very scenic including a covered bridge and occasional wood ducks. Likely time of 1.5 hours. We will go to Bruno’s on foot after for a coffee or lunch if there is interest. Parking on both sides of the street across from the horse stables. Bike helmets required, tire changing competency hoped for, and steady rain cancels. Bring a bottle of water. Leader: Barb Nickerson.
