Rushmore is almost impossible to define in a single genre. A comedy with a slightly menacing edge? An ironic romance? A coming-of-age story about ambition, friendship, and having absolutely no idea when to stop? Somehow, it’s all of those things. Wes Anderson’s second film follows Max Fischer, an eccentric student who throws himself into every possible extracurricular activity while being, let's say, less successful in the classroom. Delightful, awkward, and surprisingly heartfelt, Rushmore already has much of the style and humour that would come to define Anderson's later films. A little strange, very funny, and unlike much else. Come join us and see where the Wes Anderson universe really started to take shape.
