Workshop—Anywhere, Everywhere with Suha Hassan
About the event
To close the ‘Global Positioning System‘ exhibition, our Anywhere, Everywhere programme continues with an offsite workshop in the Madha territory with researcher Suha Hassan. The session opens with archival maps and documents that trace the drawn border between the United Arab Emirates and Oman, followed by a hike through the terrain, drawing on Emirati artist Abdulla Al Saadi’s works as an alternative, more personal form of navigation. Participants are invited to produce their own map of the route as they go, treating mapmaking as a subjective, relational act rather than a fixed record, and to leave with a navigational tool of their own. Advance registration is required. The workshop is subject to limited availability. The group will travel to Madha for the session, with transport provided to and from Jameel Arts Centre. The day includes a hike, so comfortable shoes and walking gear are recommended. Suha Hasan is an architect and researcher, and founder of ASH, an architecture practice based in Stockholm specializing in heritage and cultural management. She trained as a journalist alongside architecture, and her PhD from KTH Royal Institute of Technology examined how archives, cultural institutions, and master planning have shaped national narratives after independence. She founded Mawane, a Bahrain-based platform for urban research, is a founding member of the Modern Sudan Collective, and heads the AA Visiting School Climate Cartographies, which explores architecture, history, and the environment together. Her current work looks at overlooked histories and environmental conditions tied to archaeological and heritage sites. She has taught and lectured across Bahrain, Egypt, Singapore, Slovakia, Sweden, Sudan, and the UK, consulted for the UNDP, the Sharjah Architecture Triennale, and the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, and holds board and advisory roles with Docomomo International’s Bahrain and Sudan chapters, among other institutions. She is the winner of the 2025 Guldrummet Award. SEE ALL EVENTS
