About the event

Discover queer composers during this edition of the Museum Pleyel Series. Songs and pieces by various queer composers will be performed on the beautiful 1900 Blüthner. In addition, Duo Pleyel is bringing their own harpsichord to play very old pieces. Together with the young talented violinist Hannah Doktor (16 years old) and Boris Lipovsek (17 years old, bass-baritone), various songs and pieces by queer composers will be performed. Especially as part of the exhibition on Lutheran queer history 'Our Faith is Love', Duo Pleyel will perform a program featuring many queer composers. From Schubert to Elton John! Who or what is Duo Pleyel? Duo Pleyel is named after their beautiful Pleyel piano from 1848. The duo consists of pianists Alexandra Nepomnyashchaya and Richard Egarr. Together, they have been dedicated for nine years to making the rich and captivating repertoire for piano four-hands accessible to a wider audience. They aim to offer varied programs, ranging from the earliest music of Johann Christian Bach and Mozart, and lesser-known early Romantics such as Hummel and Dussek, to the great popular works of Fauré, Debussy, Ravel, and Stravinsky from the twentieth century. Which young talent is joining this concert? Meet Boris Lipovsek, the 17-year-old bass-baritone! I started singing at the age of four. What began as a hobby grew into a great love and passion for singing as a soloist. For more than ten years, I sang with Nieuw Vocaal Amsterdam, where I grew up with classical music. It was there that I was also first introduced to opera. As a resident children's choir of the Dutch National Opera, I had the opportunity to sing in productions such as Pagliacci and Faust Working Title. That is how my love for opera began. I am currently studying bass-baritone singing at the t'Sweelinck Academy of the Amsterdam Conservatory, where I am taught by the amazing Titia van Heyst. There, I am working hard on my greatest dream: becoming an opera singer. Meet Hannah Dokter, the 16-year-old violinist! Hannah Dokter started playing the violin at the age of four with Johannes Lievaart in Utrecht. For the past two years, she has been happily taking lessons with Judith van Driel at the Sweelinck Academy of the Amsterdam Conservatory. To do so, she travels from Zeist to Amsterdam every Saturday. Hannah prefers making music with others. That is why she has been playing with Jonge Strijkers Nederland for several years, with whom she performs regularly. The ensemble playing, the concerts, and the special projects make the orchestra an inspiring place for her. In addition to her violin studies, Hannah attends the Openbaar Lyceum Zeist. Outside of music, she enjoys exercise and sports: clearing her head for a moment so she can continue with renewed energy. For Hannah, music is a way to tell stories, touch people, and take on ever-new challenges. She is therefore very happy to be part of the Duo Pleyel Museum Series.
