The Scientific Americans (Morgan Evans-Weiler and Flandrew Fleisenberg) have maintained a continuous longitudinal study of acoustic phenomena since 2008. Their methodology centers on the excitation of resonant bodies —specifically violin and percussion—through non-standard kinetic input. By prioritizing sustained frequencies and harmonic friction over traditional prosody, they generate acoustic drones that serve as real-time stress tests for metaphysical and epistemological models.
We thought we were special, opening our perceptions, honing our empathy, spilling that cauldron of shared pain onto the dance floor of language and then trying to make a minuet out of all that chaotic hurt. It doesn't matter a damn bit. We're no avatars, no sons of god or man. We're only us, scribbling our conceits alone, reading alone, and dying alone. – Martin Silenus (Dan Simmons), Fall of Hyperion
Nectar Gnome is Jenny Moon Tucker and Meg Ragan. An exploration and experiment in weaving sound through the realms. Saxophone, strings, tones and percussive textures sourced though a variety of mysterious objects, build ecstatic stories. Through play they will coax voices out of the aether. Based in Stevenson, MD they help facilitate Changing Ferns Farm, a space for growing food, medicine and healing. Jenny Moon Tucker has their roots in the DC/Baltimore experimental music worlds, collaborating with a wellspring of beautiful sound technicians, and has performed at High Zero and DC’s Sound Scene.
Layne Garrett (guitar) and Nate Scheible (drums). Based in Washington DC, NS and LG have played together in many configurations including the art-rock band DRAWN and various ad hoc ensembles. As a duo, their music is rooted largely in free improvisation, exploring timbre, repetition, intuition, physicality, and abstraction. Nate has released music on Outside Time and Warm Winters Ltd; former affiliations include Mock Identity, Scarcity of Tanks, and Self Destruct Button. Layne plays in Weed Tree and other projects.
