Pianist Ying Shan Hu plays Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and works by Liszt amidst the paintings of Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam during the Grachtenfestival. Sound and imagination reinforce each other in this intimate concert. Music and visual arts meet During the Grachtenfestival, pianist Ying Shan Hu performs at the Arti et Amicitiae society in Amsterdam. This is no ordinary concert hall: the walls are covered with paintings. It is precisely in this setting that Mussorgsky’s *Pictures at an Exhibition* sounds particularly special. The piece is inspired by an exhibition of drawings and paintings. Now, the music itself stands amidst the art. A program full of imagination In addition to the work of Mussorgsky, Ying Shan Hu performs two pieces by Liszt: Les Jeux d'Eau à la Villa d'Este and his Second Legend . Both works are strongly visual in character. Surrounded by artworks, they acquire an extra dimension. The program challenges you to listen and to look. Ying Shan Hu: a pianist to keep an eye on Ying Shan Hu studied in Maastricht and Leipzig and is currently training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She has won prizes at the Princess Christina Competition and the Steinway Competition, among others, and has already performed at the Concertgebouw and the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ. Are you interested?
