The New Age of Sexism by Laura Bates
About the event
📚 Book Club Invitation: The New Age of Sexism by Laura Bates
For our September meeting, we’ll be discussing The New Age of Sexism by Laura Bates,
A provocative examination of how technology, social media, online communities, and changing ideas about gender are reshaping relationships between men and women.
From incel culture and the manosphere to algorithms, pornography, AI, and influencers such as Andrew Tate, Bates explores how old forms of sexism can take on new forms in the digital age.
But our discussion won’t simply be about agreeing or disagreeing with the book. We’ll use it as a starting point for some broader questions: What does Bates get right? Where might her analysis be too one-sided? What are young men and women actually looking for today and what would healthier models of masculinity, femininity, relationships, and equality look like? …
📅 Date: Saturday, 19 September ⏰ Time: You are welcome from 11 am on, discussion starts 11.30 📍 Venue: Carpe Diem, Avenue de Tervuren 13, 1040 Brussels
Expect an open and engaging discussion in a relaxed setting, followed, if you like, with lunch together.
