The ReFramers present: In Search of an Anchor

Vincent van Gogh searched for his purpose in life for a long time. What gave him stability? And what role did his creativity play in this? Be surprised by contemporary perspectives on Vincent's art and join him on a quest for a grip on life, guided by themes such as rituals, relationships, and daily routine. Where do you find an anchor? A question that occupies both Vincent van Gogh and many young people today. In Searching for a Right Grip, ReFramers Anna Crok, Kamelia Erich, and Bintou Kourouma offer their views on this question and the art of Van Gogh. ReFramers Reframer Anna: 'Sometimes you seem to be able to find a foothold in the wrong places, or in habits that offer no real support.' De Beeldbrekers start from themes that also played a role in Vincent's life, such as routines, relationships, faith, and creating work. For him, these were ways to give direction to his life. Van Gogh found solace in painting itself, in the constant re-creation of images. That idea runs like a common thread through the exhibition. 'Especially now that I am ill, I try to make something to comfort myself,' Vincent wrote to his brother Theo in 1889.
