Emancipation Train Ride 2026

Join Blackhurst Cultural Centre for the 2026 Emancipation Underground Freedom Train Ride , a powerful late-night journey commemorating Emancipation Day and the historic abolition of slavery across the British Empire. Beginning at Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station on July 31, participants will travel together by subway to Union Station, welcoming August 1 through music, poetry, reflection and community celebration. Inspired by the history of the Underground Railroad, the annual ride honours the courage of those who resisted enslavement and recognizes the continuing journey toward freedom. Presented in partnership with the Toronto Transit Commission, this free, all-ages event brings history to life through a unique shared experience on Toronto’s subway system.
