About the event

Winner, Hot Docs Audience Award Three US doctors on the ground in Gaza risk everything to save lives and expose the horrors they encounter. Despite their differing backgrounds—Palestinian, Jewish and Zoroastrian—the physicians are steadfast in providing emergency medical care amid a growing humanitarian crisis while at the same time demanding action and accountability from their government. Director Poh Si Teng doesn’t censor what she witnesses in Gaza lest she engage in what one of the doctors calls “journalistic malpractice.” Filmed in several hospitals under siege, the documentary captures the unfolding chaos of emergency medicine in a devastated healthcare system, where physicians must make unfathomable triage decisions while confronting danger themselves. Moving between frontline medical care and the corridors of government power, American Doctor explores the moral responsibilities of healthcare workers in times of conflict and the fragile intersection of medicine, politics and humanitarian action. Vivian Belik, Hot Docs In English, Arabic and Hebrew, with English subtitles. TICKETS (+HST) General: $15 Members: $10, $8, FREE
