XYZZY REDUX

Hamer Hall

About the event

Following its monumental premiere at Now or Never’s inaugural curation in 2023, XYZZY (pronounced ziz-zy) has captivated global audiences. Now, it returns in an entirely new context, reimagined and projected onto the façade of Hamer Hall. XYZZY REDUX invites you to untether from reality and transport into a pure digital hallucination. Created by artist Jess Johnson and video director Simon Ward, this hypnotic sensory odyssey teeters on the edge of dreamscape and nightmare. Johnson’s hand-drawn compositions are translated into a kaleidoscopic landscape of animated flesh mandalas, self-replicating architecture, undulating worms, and messianic alien deities. Constantly repeating, morphing, transforming in a meditative geometry. This neverending wormhole is heavily charged by a 90s-inspired electronic synthesiser score from musicians Andrew Clarke, Luke Rowell, Stef Animal, and Lachlan Anderson. Part of Now or Never.
