Les demoiselles de Rochefort

Two sisters leave their small coastal town Rochefort in search of love. An irresistible, fun mix of French Nouvelle Vague and Hollywood musical featuring Catherine Deneuve, Françoise Dorléac and Gene Kelly as its leads. in 1967, the success of Les parapluies de Cherbourg was followed by another, much more upbeat, musical than Jacques Demy's previous, melancholy film. The lead in the joyous musical Les demoiselles de Rochefort was once again for Catherine Deneuve. She starred opposite her elder sister Françoise Dorléac, who would die in a tragic car accident within the year. Another leading role was reserved for musical star Gene Kelly ( Singin' in the Rain ).
