Guy Pearce and Joey Pants shine in this Christopher Nolan stunner that tells its story all in reverse. Pearce is Leonard Shelby, a man on the hunt for the culprit who murdered his wife and left him with a condition that keeps him from making new memories: He is forced to live his life believing the clues he leaves for himself to help him bring the man responsible to justice. Christopher Nolan declared himself a presence in his second big-screen outing and does something truly unique and impressive with this film as he constructs a cleverly made thriller by leading with effect before revealing cause. But beyond the incredibly effective thrills, MEMENTO has ruminations on the meaning of life and the nature of perception.
